Similarity detection

I worked during a research internship in LIRIS - INSA de Lyon under the supervision of Véronique Eglin and Stéphane Bres on the development of a novel compression method for document images. This method is based on the similarity detection in the text part of the image.
An example of the detection of similar shapes in an old manuscript image is shown below :
