The theory of signal sampling is well known. However when sampling images in some cases it might be interesting to preserve some details, even if theoretically they should be erased. We have developed a general image sampling method based on a reference image and we have used mathematical morphology operators (namely the tophat transformation and the morphological laplacian) to implement it.
